metabolism

This post is a discussion of my heart rate while doing sedentary computer tasks at work. I am better off sleeping.

After spending the last two hours at my desk, reading yet another boring technical memorandum, I finally blinked and decided to checked my heart rate on my new Mio Motiva Petite heart rate monitor.

I was shocked to find the display showing 62 bmps (beats-per minute)! This number really does not mean much until you see that it is only 32% of my max heart rate. 32%! That is only a little higher than my resting heart rate when I wake up each morning. And since my eyes are a little dried, that tells me that I barely even blinked the last 2 hours.

Sometimes it is not about how much you eat and how much you exercise, but how effectively our bodies use the calories we ingest. Healthy eating and exercise is still important, but sometimes understanding how our bodies function allows us to focus on health rather than skinny. This post discuss our ability to lose weight when the body’s normal function to produce heat is hindered and how to boost our metabolism.

There are many factors that affect how our bodies convert the food we into energy.  Most people, including myself, have no problem with eating enough food to supply our bodies with the energy we need to function (though it is questionable whether we are supplying our bodies with premium or regular fuel).  This post is a discussion of the other side of the energy equation: other than fat storage for excess calories, how are the calories distributed inside our bodies?
