Post image for Skinny Mirror – the Ugly and the Beautiful

I absolutely adore the full length mirror at the women’s restroom at work. It reminds me of the funny mirrors at the carnivals that morphed your body into unnatural shapes. But there is nothing natural about this mirror.

Post image for Effects of Too Much Exercise

In my early 20s when I first started exercising regularly, I was overtraining myself. Of course, I did not recognize the insomnia and constant fatigue were the effects of exercising too much. I thought my never ending aches were a badge of my dedication to a healthier and thinner lifestyle. Neither did I notice that my headaches were not from drinking too much coffee and that it is not natural for a young woman to have that many colds.

Remember my previous about wedding dress sizing and how horrible it makes a bride feel squeezing into a dress two or three sizes smaller than their usual dress size? Well, I have another story for you about my Chinese dress shopping experience in San Francisco.

Though I am smaller than most American women, I am a big Chinese girl (I cannot believe that I am saying that about my 5’3” frame). The first three shops I visited in Chinatown did not even have my size (size 10 in the rear and a size 6/8 on top). The fourth shop had a few XXL dresses available (I am embarrassed even writing those words. I feel almost as awkward as the time my co-workers caught me eating a Hungryman XXL after telling them that I try not to get microwave food.)

Post image for I Broke the Hourglass with Bulking Thighs!

I am on the last phase of ChaLean Extreme. Am I leaner? Not really. But I am certainly much stronger. I look firmer overall. I have one and a half months left to “get in shape for my wedding.” I would give up $10,000 from my salary to lose 2 inches off my waist so my figure would look more hourglass-like and nipped at the waist. But I know that I do not have the body type for an hourglass. Maybe I should diet?

Mystery of Womanhood

Welcome to Small Steps to Health where we do not take orders from a cookie!

Even though we have more knowledge available about the female body, we are more ignorant than ever before in human history. Somewhere between being a teenager and being an adult we have develop a disconnect with our female bodies.

And whenever there is a “glitch in the system,” our reactions range from annoyance to outright anger. We feel betrayed by our bodies. How dare our female bodies interrupt our lives! But a lot time, we chose to ignore the subtle messages that our bodies are sending.

Wedding Dresses Sizing

Welcome to Small Steps to Health where we do not take orders from a cookie!

Sometimes I wonder why we try so hard to maintain or even lose weight.  In 10 years I would still be the same dress size even though your typical office worker gains 2 pounds per yearVanity sizing would guarantee that I would still be a size 8 at 40.  But wedding dresses sizing has its own set rules that makes even a normal sized bride feel like a whale.  Actually wedding dresses sizing makes wedding dress shopping down right depressing.

This a post on my thoughts about wedding dresses sizing and a tip I learned that could save you some money when you shop for a wedding dress.

barbie

Welcome to Small Steps to Health where we do not take orders from a cookie!

Our office secretary called me a “Barbie” at lunch today. My first reaction was “what?!!” Since I have a transparent face, my confusion was obvious.

Am I suppose to feel honored or insulted?

Apparently the group of women in my new department call any women within their healthy BMI a “Barbie.”

last day in office and weight

I cannot believe that today would be my last day in this office.  I have already gotten over my disappointment for being voted off the island.  But what astonished me was that 26 people showed to my farewell luncheon at the restaurant.  And I got over $130 worth of gifts.  In addition, I had individuals taking me out to lunch for the last couple of days.  All this and I have barely been in this office for 8 months!

This post is a discussion of a parent’s role in raising a child with emotional eating problems.

It is pretty astonishing the amount of emotional baggage that we being to the dinner table. Each time we sit at the dinner table, we are eating with the shade of our childhood disappointment with food.

Shoe Shopping

I went shoe shopping this weekend. Since Sex in the City, I am pretty sure men are aware of the fact that women cannot say no to a really good shoe sale. Are you sitting back, scratching your head, wondering how shoe shopping is related to your weight?

For most women weight gain or weight lose do not change the size of our feet, unless we are obese with fat deposits on our feet or it is swollen from water retention. Our feet are largely bones, cartilage, and tendons. So a pair of size 7 will fit me even if I gain or lose 20 pounds. When have we ever heard of “Does my foot look fat in this?”…………….
