Exercise & Injuries

One of my biggest problems with exercising at home is that I do not have access to the variety of cardio machines that are available at the gym. I have my elliptical machine, but it gets old after a while. Since discovering The Firm exercise dvds four years ago, I occasionally include step aerobics for [...]

A while ago I talked about using your measurements to find your body shape. In this post, I want to talk about the type of exercises to avoid for your body shape. Exercise for weight loss vs maintenance mode In most cases the exercise you do for weight loss and for weight maintenance can be [...]

Are you going to be like my husband who lies on the sofa making wisecrack remarks while I am doing “girlie” pushups? Or are you going to actually do the exercise, get sweaty, and slightly breathless? Exercise videos only work (as in losing weight or getting stronger) if you actually use it consistently over time and adding variation to your routine.

This post is a discussion of why using exercise dvds are a cheap way to work out. As some of my regular readers know, I workout exclusively with exercise dvds at home. I generally do not count my bowling nights, walks at breaks, and walks around the neighborhood as my daily exercise quota. These activities always involve other people. I consider these activities to be my socializing time since my focus is talking to the people I am with.

I believe that my physical independence as I age is base on the things I do now to make sure my body stay strong when I am older. I will never forget the frustration I felt when it took me 20 minutes to walk 2 blocks from my house to the church and back a couple of weeks after my car accident.
