I think people in general do a lot of waiting. Waiting for the right moment to start exercising. Waiting for the special person to come along and change your life. We just wait and wait until our ship sails in.
There is nothing wrong with patience, but at some point you need to stop waiting for life and just start living. If you have been toying with the idea of changing your life, start with your health. Start walking for 15 minutes. Start adding a piece of fruit to every meal. Just start.
You can continue to wait for that right moment while you do these little things. There is no perfect moment to start taking care of yourself. You will not get instant gratification from eating healthy or exercising, but neither will you get that queasy feeling in your stomach from a dreaded phone call about being on maintenance medication for the rest of your life when you are only 40.
My P90x friend (yes, he has an official title now) has been starting P90X on and off for the last year. He believes his lack of commitment to the exercise program is due to his timing. He is waiting for the perfect moment when his kids will magically fall asleep every night without a fuss and his wife will exercise by his side. Is it any surprise that he is still waiting for that moment when his lifestyle will change?
I am still waiting for that moment when I get pregnant, but I am still taking my folic acid in the meantime. I am still waiting for that moment when my hip stops hurting, but I am doing hip exercises in the meantime (actually my hip is doing much better this last year). Take the small steps. Just start. Your ship is already here.
Until next time and thanks for stopping by Small Steps to Health.
