A Day at Yosemite

in Exercise & Injuries

I spent last Friday biking and hiking at Yosemite.  It was beautiful and invigorating to move my body.  But because I spent all day moving on Friday, both my husband and I spent Saturday sluggishly moving around the house.  Our excuse?  We moved all day Friday, so we do not need to move on Saturday or Sunday.  Great logic huh?

Boy was I paying the price on Sunday with a stiff neck (another car accident injured site) from looking downward with all my reading, online browsing, and computer game playing on those two idyllic days.  I should at least make the attempt to go for a walk for do some neck rolls from time to time.  That is human nature for you.  Unless we have to, most of us revert back to our old habits real fast and real soon.

One very interesting thing that I discovered from our day of hiking is that my husband is quick to assume that he is in better shape than me (I secretly think he feels a little guilty for his lack of exercise).  I was resting a lot during the last trail we climbed to see Vernal Falls (from where we started it was a 400-500 ft elevation change).  I finally had to bust his bubble when I mentioned that I am getting dizzy from the altitude change, not from the climb itself.

The next day proved my point because I felt perfectly fine without even an ache on my legs while he moaned and groaned about his aching quads, hamstrings, and glutes.  Mind you, the little devil on my shoulder keep insisting that I call him out, but being the good wife that I am, I brought him a beer and a bag of chips while he lay on the sofa.  No point in arguing about eating healthy.  Besides, I want to do this again.  I rather torture my husband by making spend another day hiking with me.  :)

Until next time and thanks for stopping by Small Steps to Health.

Tehehe that’s awesome, Asithi. So much fun when we can get out there to exercise with our loved ones! My boyfriend really enjoys hiking so we’re going to go on a couple two-day hikes this summer, which I’m looking forward to.

Good choice on giving him the beer and chips ;)

I went to Yosemite on one California trip That place is fabulous!! It was this time of year so all the falls were beautiful and in the higher altitudes there was still knee deep snow on the ground. Loved it!!

Dr. J – there was still a light dusting of snow when I went. It was beautiful. I would definitely recommend bringing a bike if you have one. It is much nicer to bike around the valley instead of catching the shuttle. Walking to all the waterfall locations could take all day. Thanks for the comment!
