Welcome to Small Steps to Health where we do not take orders from a cookie!
Sometimes it feels great to wallow in pity parties about my torn labrum, but being an eternal optimist, I am ready to move on. But dear readers, I want you to know that there is more than one path to take when you are dealing with chronic pain.
The path to take
You can choose to let it stop you from enjoying life or you can choose to keep exercising and doing what you can to stay strong. I know that hip surgery is in my future, but I am going to do my part to strengthen the muscles around my hip so that surgery is WAY into the future.
I believe that my physical independence as I age is base on the things I do now to make sure my body stay strong when I am older. I will never forget the frustration I felt when it took me 20 minutes to walk 2 blocks from my house to the church and back a couple of weeks after my car accident.
Is there a plan?
I always believe that things happen for a reason. Even if I do not see what the plan is, there is always one. It has been 4 years and I am still trying to figure this one out. I think the lesson I am supposed to learn is to not take my health for granted and to have empathy for people with health concerns. But isn’t chronic pain for the last few years (and potentially in the years to come) a stiff price to pay?
Sometimes I wonder what the plan is for the woman who hit us on the freeway. Will she drive with more caution or did she just end up buying a bigger car? I do not have answers to these things and I probably never will.
There is no point in crying over the unfairness of spilt milk. I can only mop it back up into the glass with a rag and hope that the dirt floating around in the milk is not going to give me an upset stomach.
The next big change I see happening in my life is pregnancy. I am so excited by the idea of having a baby of my own. So the next few posts will probably revolve around pregnancy planning. Of course that is not to say that I will not be posting about other health stuff I have been known to post about random health things as it flitters across my consciousness, but pregnancy will be the bulk of it for a while.
Until next time and thanks for stopping by.
