[...] As a ruler body shape, when I want to lose weight I usually drop about 8-10 pounds with 3 days of intervals for cardio (40 minutes) and 2 days of aerobic weight training (40 minutes) for a 1.5-2 month period without any changes to my diet. But when I am trying to build strength, I often follow a low rep and heavy weight exercise plan such as ChaLean Extreme. [...]

Cindy – Do you exercise regularly now? Do you like to lift weights or are you more of a cardio queen? Do you know if your body response better to lifting slow heavy weights or faster but lighter weights (aerobic weight training)? The reason why I am asking these questions is it makes a big difference in what program you should purchase.

ChaLean and P90X are programs that focus on lifting slow heavy weights. ChaLean includes two ab routines (approx. 10 minutes), but in general the program does not focus on the abs (other using it to stabilize you when working upper and lower body at the same time). P90X just takes too long (over 60 minutes for most of its workouts), but you will get results. You will get stronger on either one of these programs.

Have you heard of Turbo Jam (approximately 40 minutes) or the The Firm (varies from 30-60 minutes)? These two exercise programs focus on aerobic weight training. My body responds well to this type of training when I want to lean out and work on my abs. Almost all your moves in Turbo Jam require you to work your abs because you are twisting or bending. If you are short like me, you need to be careful of the tall box climb in The Firm programs because you might end up hurting your knees.

My two cents. Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the review....very helpful as I was considering which to order..Chalean or P90X. I guess I am a little like you, I am 10 months postpartum and have 5 stubborn/vanity pounds to lose, but mainly have a midsection to tone up. Do you really see results in the midsection, I'm not flat by no means, having 2 kids, but I totally want to get there...Is this the program for me?
