Welcome to Small Steps to Health where we do not take orders from a cookie!

Sometimes I wonder if aliens are watching us from a distant planet whether they would find it strange the amount of money or time we spend on seeking expert advice on how to eat healthy.  We read magazines and books, consult with nutritionists and doctors, and even check with the government (ie. the food pyramid) on one of our most basic survival skills.

We do not see birds or butterflies seeking professional advice on what they should eat.  And for thousands of years, the human population do not seem to have this problem either.  But it seems like we have forgotten how to eat healthy the last 100 years.

Part of the reason for this food confusion is that everyone wants us to be fat.  It used to be that food was all that we could buy at a grocery store.  Now there are thousands of edible products that masquerade as food.  How is someone suppose to know how to eat healthy without a walking laptop by their side?

One simple trick on how to eat healthy

Here is one simple trick on how to eat healthy:  Avoid food that make health claims.

When is the last time you walk pass the produce aisles at your local supermarket and there is a big sign claiming that broccolis are low carb?  When is that last time you see a sign claiming that eggs are a good source of omega-3?

Real food do not make health claims. The profit margins for fruits and vegetables are too low for the food industry to advertise their health benefits.  The health benefits are real, not added back in after processing, unlike white bread.

A health claim on a food item is a powerful indication that it is an edible food product. And eating too much edible food products are not healthy.

Until next time and thanks for stopping by.

I don’t have to too much time or money to prepare food. I need some healthy options. I eat fruits all the time so thats not a problem. However, I need meal options. I like tuna fish so I eat tuna salad sandwiches A LOT. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
