Comment spam

Welcome to Small Steps to Health where we do not take orders from a cookie!

I finally figured out why certain posts keep getting comment spam vs. other posts on my blog.  Whenever a reader insert one of my posts url on a forum, I notice that I would get massive amounts of comment spams for that post.

Five posts on my blog generate 90% of my comment spam.  But the traffic I receive from the various forums combine is less than 1% of my visitors.  Interesting huh?  It makes me wonder what of comment spam patterns are present in other blogs.

However, I do appreciate the fact that my readers think my posts are good enough to share with others.  So I do not complain about comment spams.

I do not even bother scrolling through the lists of comment spam to see if there might be a legitimate comment.  I figure that if Akismet thinks you are spam, 99.9% of time you are spam.  I used to check for legitimate comments, but it got to the point where I feel like I am polluting my eyes with the filth that tries to sneak into my blog.

So if you are wondering why I moderate my comments, it is to prevent spam from sneaking onto my blog.  It is far easier for me to filter my comments than to have a reader leave in frustration when they cannot see the text for a captcha image.  And even then, captcha does not always work.  I have seen some blogs with comment spam even though they implement captcha.

Until next time and thanks for stopping by Small Steps to Health.
