I firmly believe people have a right to live whatever way they want. But I find the birth of the octuplets by a Californian women to be disturbing and a little angry at the mother. The reason is that the mother already have 6 other children under the age of 10 at the time of the birth. All the pregnancies were through in vitros. What I do not understand is why any fertility doctor would think it is a good idea to implant 6 embryos to a divorced and unemployed women with 6 young kids?

She would probably have to get on the welfare system in order to feed her children. But how did she think that she would be able to take care of all of them? I mean think about all the diapers she would have to change every day! She is being really selfish for bringing all these children into the world when she cannot provide love and care for them (even if the state provides money to feed them). With 14 children competing for a single parent’s affection, how much love do think they are each going to get?

Then you have people like Pastaqueen, who mentioned the other day that she does not think that she wants to have children. I also have a few friends that knew in their late 20s that they do not want any children. All of them have their various reasons. And now well into their 40s and without a significant other, I believe they probably knew themselves well enough to make that decision.

I knew even in my early 20s that I want children in my life. For a while, I thought I would just like them to belong to my friends or my siblings. Now at 30, I cannot wait until we start a family of our own. But I would never have the courage to have that many children. Or maybe I am just selfish because I know that I would not be able to retire if I have 14 children.

Until next time and thanks for stopping by Small Steps to Health.
