brush-your-teeth1This post is a book review for Brush Your Teeth! and other Simple Ways to Stay Young and Healthy by Dr. David S. Ostreicher.

Focusing on the big picture items when it comes to our health, like eating organic or drinking pomegranate juice, gets headlines and attention. Sure these things help, but sometimes it is the smaller daily decisions that we do not think too much about that have the most impact on our health.

Small Steps to Health is on the blogroll of health.msn.com. Wow! When I saw traffic coming in from the site, I thought it might have been a mistake. I am not sure when this happen or how. But I am going to get that screen shot so that I can “document” this in case it turns out to be a mistake! :D

I am that speck on the lower right hand corner. Don”t blink or you might miss it!

I have a confession to make. Since last August I have not seen any change in my body even though I workout consistently. Generally I average about 4-5 workouts a week with a mix of cardio, pilates, and strength training.

Sounds like I should be slimming down and building muscle right? Or that maybe I am cheating and eating more than I should? If I was trying to lose weight, I would say that I am stuck at the dreaded weight loss plateau stage. The culprit is related to intensity, pain, and a little laziness on my part. Let me explain.

This post is a discussion about exercise intensity, weight loss plateaus, and how I am a wimp.

Trail in MexicoI usually write my posts offline. When I first start blogging, I would write my posts on Word, then copy and paste the text to Blogger. When I switch to Wordpress, I would copy and paste the text to the Wordpress Editor.

That method worked fine, except that sometimes the style of my text on a few of my posts do not end up looking like the way they should. The reason is that Word often insert its own styling to the text. And when I am in a hurry, I do not remember to check for it in the html view. So I have a few posts on my blog that are styled a little differently than the rest. But with over 150 posts up on my site, I find it a little too daunting to check each of them to correct the styling.

the-great-american-heart-hoax

American spends at least $600 billion a year on invasive cardiovascular care. For a country with only 5% of the world’s population, we sure seem to spend more money than anyone else on our heart. Money aside, the risk involve in bypass surgery, stent placements, and coronary artery angioplasties might not be as effective as the medical community lead us to believe.

In The Great American Heart Hoax, Dr. Michael Ozner dispel the myths of why heart surgeries such as bypass surgery, stent placements, and coronary artery angioplasties do not work and how diet, exercise, and medical therapy might achieve better results for a majority of patients with heart disease.

When asked what is your weakness in a job interview, never say that you are a perfectionist. In a professional environment, rarely do you strive for perfection. Most of time it is about meeting a deadline. Same for weight loss and a healthy lifestyle. If you wait for the “perfect outfit” or the “perfect weather” or the “perfect man” to movitate yourself, then you are going to be waiting for a long wait. The law of momentum as I learned in my engineering classes is to get started. Start moving and gravity will get you down that hill faster than you believe. But key is to start. Are you starting today? Or you still waiting?

Until next time and thanks for stopping by Small Steps to Health.

More About Children

lambs and lamblets

I firmly believe people have a right to live whatever way they want. But I find the birth of the octuplets by a Californian women to be disturbing and a little angry at the mother. The reason is that the mother already have 6 other children under the age of 10 at the time of the birth. All the pregnancies were through in vitros. What I do not understand is why any fertility doctor would think it is a good idea to implant 8 embryos to a divorced and unemployed women with 6 young kids? With 14 children competing for a single parent’s affection, how much love do think they are each going to get?

My Blog is Turning a Profit

My blog is finally turning a profit. I have made enough from my advertising to pay for my hosting and domain name registration until April when I must pay for my yearly maintenance costs again. From now until April, it will just be pure profit for me! Yep, I can see myself getting 4 mochas from Starbucks from this increase in income. :D

Your typical bloggers do not make that much money from their blogs. The sites that are set up to just promote products or services are not really your typical blogger in my opinion.

After hearing my brother raved about Pom Wonderful over Christmas, I am excited that someone wants to send me case for review. However, after hearing about the expired batch that Every Gym””s Nightmare got, I approached the box with a little trepidation and a frantic need to check the expiration date before I rip open the drink. It is bowling night and I am always ravenousness when I get home from the league. And having a box of anything edible on my doorsteps is cause for a little victory dance.

The Taste

Unlike most juices that slide down like water, I feel like there is a depth to Pom Wonderful. Not heavy like V8, but definitely with a little more substance and a tang at the end. I can actually taste the hard part inside the fleshy juicy part of a pomegranate seed. I am not sure if I am describing this correctly, but if you ever eaten a pomegranate then you know that the center of the seed is a little harder than the fleshy part and has its own unique taste.
