My husband and I are in escrow for our first house. It is a really exciting time for us, but also pretty scary at the same time. There are nights where I lie in bed thinking “What the heck are we doing? This is not the time for such a large financial purchase.”

“We can afford the house. We have money for a down payment. It will be alright.” I repeat this mantra over and over again until I finally fall back to sleep.

As many of my readers know, I am fascinated by the differences in between women vs. men. I love my husband. Though he is my best friend and we have similar values and viewpoints, sometimes I think he is a stranger. How much of that difference is in our head?

I wonder how much they paid someone to make up catch phrases such as “recession pounds.” According to Yahoo News, as people tighten their spending during a recession, they “will cut back on healthy but relatively expensive items such as fresh fish, fruit, vegetables and whole grains, in favor of cheaper options high in sugar and saturated fats.”

It is certainly true that calorie dense, but low nutritious foods are cheaper than fresh fruit and vegetables. That is why sales at McDonald’s are going up. A 7% jump last year during its 3rd quarter.

Though variety is the spice of life, when it comes to dieting, variety increase our chances of failure. The January issue of most magazines always have some kind of meal and exercise plan to whip us back into shape after a couple months of holiday eating. If you count the ingredient list of these meal plans, they usually average at least 6 to 10 ingredients. Most of which are used in only 1 or 2 meals for a week long meal plan. How practical is that?! Variety in food is what kills most diet plans.

The execution of a diet meal plan is the key to success for weight loss.

I consider this month to be my 1st year blog anniversary. I did not start to blog regularly until January of last year, even though I have a couple of posts from previous months. Though I am quite happy with the amount of traffic I get from people passing through, I really want to have more “regulars” show up on my doorsteps. And as with real life, you cannot make friends unless you let people in – let them see the real you.

So this year, I would like to share more stories about my life (or at least stories pertaining to health and fitness), even if they do not end with some profound sentence about how the story will change my readers life. I would like to take shot at trying to amuse my readers with the mishaps and adventures in my life……………..

This weekend I saw my cousin, Jimmy, for the first time since he completed basic training for the Marines three years ago. I cannot believe that skinny young adult has transformed into this trim and muscular person. Though Jimmy had the thin stooped frame of a marathon video gamer, he had no problems with passing the physical at the entrance processing station. But that is not the case for every hopeful recruit. As a matter of fact, most recruits have a problem with excess weight rather than being too small for the military.

It is common knowledge that we are getting fatter as a nation. It has long been known that overweight girls tend to mature earlier than thinner girls. But why is that the case? The answer might be in our fat cells.
