slotMusic – Don’t Quit Fitness Bundle Review

Tagged Workout Products,

I regularly listen to music or podcasts with my ipod when I do my aerobic workouts. After using a workout dvd a few times, I do not need to listen to the instruction anymore. I am excited to have the opportunity to review the slotMusic – Don’t Quit Fitness Bundle. I am always on the lookout for that workout tool that will make my aerobic workouts a little more interesting. This post will discuss the Don’t Quit Fitness Bundle – what I like and dislike about this product. Let’s just say that I am disappointed.

What is slotMusic?

slotMusic uses a 1 gig Micro SD card as a music distribution format instead of a CD. The album you purchased on the Micro SD card can be load on your computer or cellphone easily. The Don’t Quit Fitness card is just one of slotMusic’s many music cards.

What is the Don’t Quit Fitness Bundle?

The Don’t Quit Fitness Bundle comes with the slotMusic player, a slotMusic card loaded with two workout mixes, and a Micro SD USB adaptor. One mix is 44 minutes long and the other mix is 37 minutes long. The two mixes are tempo music (ie. no vocals).

How does Don’t Quit Fitness Bundle compare to what I regularly listen to on my ipod?

For tempo music, I generally listen to Podrunner. It’s free and I love the fact that each podcast lists the BPM (beats per minute) for each mix. I like to be able to match how fast I step to the BPM.

I have no idea what is the BPM for each of the tempo mixes on the Don’t Quit Fitness slotMusic card. My guess would be around 140-ish BPM for the first mix and 120-ish BPM for the second mix.

What I like about the Don’t Quit Fitness Bundle?

It is easy to use. There are only 5 buttons on the slotMusic player (forward, back, play/pause/stop, louder volume, lower volume).

If you are super lazy, you buy the slotMusic card, plug it in, and hit the streets. And it is a simple drag and drop process to add more music to your card without having to learn about the concept of playlists.

You can re-use the 1 gig Micro SD card. After saving the music to your computer, you can use that Micro SD card for your digital camera or cellphone. I love this idea. It sure would be nice to re-use my CDs as storage for something else. Instead, I still have the CD tower in my living collecting dust.

What I do not like about Don’t Quit Fitness Bundle?

It is too easy to use. That is right – its appeal is also its downfall in my book because I am a gadget girl. I like being able to create playlists. Without a LCD screen, you click on the forward and back button until you get the song you want. My mom might like its simplicity, but I sure don’t.

There is no built-in belt clip. It makes no sense to me why the Don’t Quit Fitness Bundle does not include a belt clip or an armband. If you are using the tempo mixes to work out, you don’t exactly have an extra hand to hold onto the player. Even my $20 Omron pedometer came with a belt clip. I know that an armband or belt clip would create another product for Sansa to sell, but trust me - no one will spend money to accessorize a $20 music player.

The lowest volume is still too loud for me. Unlike my teenage sisters, I am lucky to still have excellent hearing. When you stop the slotMusic player, the volume automatically reverts back to its default volume level. I need to click on play and immediately lower the volume before putting on the headphones when I use the slotMusic player.

Would I will buy the Don’t Quit Fitness Bundle?

I can overlook the slotMusic player’s many disappointing features if the tempo music mixes help with my aerobic workouts. After all, I can always purchase the album on the slotMusic cards and download it onto my ipod. Unfortunately, it is difficult to justify spending $35 on the Don’t Quit Fitness Bundle when I can get the tempo mixes for free on Podrunner.

I love the idea of a re-useable Micro SD cards as a music distribution format. But like a CD, I am not willing to pay for an entire album in order to get only 3-4 songs I like. I get my songs from Amazon.com for less than a dollar a song. If I am going to pay $15 for a slotMusic card, it better have 15 songs that I like instead of 10 filler songs.

Now if a company ever make a product like this, I will definitely line up for one.  :D

haha- i cant handle loud music either, or noises of any kind. i cant mow the lawn because the mower hurts my ears.

Im too much of a music snob to listen to anything anyone else picks out for me. and i need songs i know and like and can sing to in my head to help the time go by.

lol, yes I would buy that mirror too!

I agree, it needs to have a belt clip and I would also prefer to pick some of my own songs.

Yep. That would be something that I’d have to pass. The mirror–great! I wish.
