According to Mindless Eating, drinking a broth based soup, a small side salad with non-creamy dressing, or a piece of fruit helps reduce the amount of calories eaten during a meal. These items consist of either fiber or mostly water which helps your stomach detect that satiated feeling to prevent overeating.

In addition, it takes approximately 20 minutes for your stomach to signal that you are full. If you are shoveling food into your mouth quickly, only stopping when you get a signal from your stomach, you are bound to overeat. So the next time you sit down at the dinner table, try this trick to see if it will help prevent you from overeating.

To me, to stop overeating, it is best to get busy with some work or the other. I believe overeating is a health problem which needs medical attention. I know a person who overeats…. he says he does not because he loves to eat. Many people have tried to make him realise that loving to eat and overeating is not the same. The result…..he always throws tantrums in the house if he is given less food(according to him) to eat. His wife is in a fix as to how to go about it. To top all these, he is diabetic.

I totally agree with the eating of fruit. When I’m feeling hungry and it is not quite time to for my meal I have a piece of fruit and it really fills me up. I also try to drink water when I feel hungry which generally makes me feel fuller.
