Excited about the Wii Fit and a Word about Consistency

I am dying to get home from work today. Yep, today is the expected arrival of my Wii Fit. After reading reviews of the game from nytimes and here, I cannot wait to give it a spin. And to spend the weekend writing a great post about it.
I am not looking to replace my workout dvds any time soon or give away my elliptical machine, but I think it might just add an element of fun to those days when I go through the motions of a workout without much enjoyment.
Consistency is more important than how strong you are or how little you eat when it comes to weight loss. Most people without any medication problems will loose weight with consistent workouts and consistent selection of nutritional food to fuel their bodies. The rate we see the change in our bodies depends on the combination of food and activity will vary for each of us. The principle of eating nutritional food and increasing our physical activity will work, but we must be consistent.
The problem is that sometimes it takes months and even years to change our sedentary lifestyle before we see any results. That is where fun comes in. If we are having fun, then it does not feel like drudgery. Bloggernoob said it best: “Dieting is time consuming!” Who wants to spend hours at the treadmill without seeing results right away? But when you are having fun, time flies by. Hours might seem like minutes when you are enjoying yourself. You worry less about wasting your time and thinking about what else you can do at the moment instead.
So what physical activities are you doing that seem fun? As I mentioned previously, what might be fun to one person might be drudgery to another. It all depends on the individual. One of my close friends loves playing indoor soccer. To her, she loves the adrenaline rush of a match and the camaraderie of her teammates. To me, it would be drudgery. I spend time with people all day. My workout time is “my time” to be alone with my thoughts and I am protective of it. I even growl at my poor husband when he tries to engage me in a conversation when I am working out.
I think the Wii Fit might just add another element of fun to my workouts. I doubt it if I will use it as a replacement, but it might be good to chart my progress against my husband. It will give me something to talk about with my co-workers and friends who have also ordered the game. If the game is a disappointment, I can always go biking this weekend instead.
Until next time and thanks for stopping by.

I have read a lot of blog posts about Wii Fit. I would really like to get a Wii but I love the GTA games and GTA 4 is only available on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Decisions, decisions lol.
Sounds exciting - thanks for posting this. Sure could use something like this. Wii!!!
