Review: The Biggest Loser Volume 1 DVD

April 3rd, 2008 by asithi · No Comments

Reading this post complaining about the Biggest Loser Club reminded me of my experience with the Biggest Loser Volume 1 workout dvd. I brought the dvd thinking that it might have some good beginner routines in it. Boy was I disappointed.

There was a lot of high impact moves in the dvds. I do not like high impact exercises. I am not in good enough shape to do these high impact moves at the tempo of the trainer. My knees will hate me for doing them the next few days. As a matter of fact, the contestants featured in the dvd do not look like they are in any better shape than me since they are also struggling with the moves. So it is rather distracting when the contestants are working out at various paces or stopping. It looks like a bunch of high school kids rehearsing before putting on the play.

Bob, the trainer, spends more time watching the contestants and talking to the camera than cuing the exercise moves, which probably contributes to a lot of the contestants all working out to their own beat rather than a choreographed routine.

The trainer does not recommend a weight to use. In a lot of other workout dvds, the instructor tells you ahead of time to use a light set, a medium set, or a heavy set. In this dvd, they tell you to pick up your dumbbells. For a beginner, you would not know to use heavier dumbbells for chest and back and lighter dumbbells for shoulder work.

Overall, I do not like this dvd and the show too much. I prefer the Extreme Makeover Fitness workout dvd instead. There is less distraction since it is only one contestant and one trainer in each segment. People like this dvd because it features really people, but so does the Extreme Makeover dvd without the problems listed above.

Until next time and thanks for stopping by.
