Soup Diet
February 19th, 2008 by asithi · No Comments
I had a great vacation even with the tornado warning at Kennedy’s Space Center. If I had follow my advice to have a snack pack with me at all times, then I would not have been starving when we were finally release from the theater at 4pm. I was the next person in line to pay for my food when they ushered all of us into the theater so I did not have lunch until after 4pm that day. I did overeat during my trip. For the next two weeks, I will continue my preemptive plan for eating and exercise to hopefully balance out all the dining out I did last week. For the next two weeks, I will also be brown bagging my lunches with microwave dinners or soup.
Progresso has been running their soup diet commercials featuring women talking about their chicken and wild rice diet or their roasted chicken rotini diet, etc. Soups should be on your list of healthy food to eat on a regular basis when you are trying to loose weight. According to the Volumetrics Eating Plan by Barbara Rolls, Ph.D, when people start their meal with a broth-based soup, they eat 100 fewer calories. Due to its higher water and fiber content in some soups, they fill you up without filling you out.
Be sure that the soups you pick include the following items:
1. Broth based
2. Low sodium (no more than 550 milligrams per cup)
3. Low calories (between 80-150 calories per cup)
I like the Progresso and Healthy Choice brands. Of course, this is not a recommendation to eat only a “soup diet.” Anything done to the extreme when trying to loose weight is not a good idea. However, I find that once or twice a week, having a can of Progresso soup (2 servings – 200 calories) as my main lunch meal with a small salad, a piece of fruit, or half a sandwich is enough to get me the end of the work day. And each 100 calories I do not eat is 100 calories that I do not have to wear.
Until next time and thanks for stopping by.
