Restaurant portion sizes are huge these days. I can usually go to a Ruby Tuesdays and have half of my meal for lunch the next day. Sure, I complain about not being able to control my weight, but I have physically remove half of my food from my plate prior to eating enough times last year that it is not a real problem for me any longer. However, I find that I come to expect large portions from restaurants when I go out to eat. When I do not get a generous portion for my meal I leave feeling ripped off even though I know that it is probably better for my waistline. Do other people feel the same way as I do?

For example, last night I went to a fondue restaurant with my husband. For $59, we got the following items in our meal:

  • 2 6-inch plates of salad
  • 8 pieces of turkey (thumb size)
  • 8 pieces of chicken (thumb size)
  • 8 pieces of steak (thumb size)
  • 8 pieces of pork (thumb size)
  • 4 shrimps
  • 8 cauliflower florets
  • 4 slivers of red bell pepper

Mind you, all this was arranged beautifully, but when you divide the entire meal between two people, it is not much food. I do not know if this is really how the French eat, but we had to go to Subway after dinner. And this was after I tried the trick of drinking a full glass of water prior to the meal.

I do not believe in the concept of getting your money’s worth when going to a buffet. But I do not want to leave a restaurant hungry. Normally we do not go to restaurants this pricey, but we had a coupon. If you haven’t notice, my husband and I are suckers for food coupons.

Until next time and thanks for stopping by.
